5 tips for maintaining your motorhome

Maintain your motorhome to extend its lifespan

When you decide to buy a motorhome, it's essential to take good care of it, because it's an expensive investment that pays for itself over time. To extend the life of your vehicle as much as possible, there are a few tips you need to know to take the best possible care of it. Autostar takes a 5-step approach to motorhome maintenance.

Caring for your engine

Investing in a motorhome means traveling long distances. That's why we recommend servicing your vehicle's engine every 50,000 km, especially if it's a new motorhome and you want to extend its life as much as possible. If your mileage is low, changing the engine oil and brake fluid every two years is highly recommended.

Keep an eye on your tires

The worst-case scenario is a tire blowout on your luxury motorhome. To prevent this from happening, it's important to check the condition of your tires before setting off, when they're cold. Under-inflation, which increases the risk of punctures, must be avoided at all costs. Your motorhome manufacturer Autostar advises you to over-inflate your tires when you're not using your vehicle in winter.

Bodywork maintenance

Regular cleaning of your motorhome's bodywork will help keep it in good condition and maintain its appearance. Using soapy water and a long-handled broom, you can easily and effectively clean the entire bodywork. To maintain the shine, you can use a chamois leather, which is ideal for this purpose.

Keep an eye on the battery level

When you're not using your motorhome, remember to disconnect the batteries: this not only prevents them from discharging, but also ensures that your electricity is not used unnecessarily. Once completely discharged, the battery becomes inoperative, making it impossible to use it properly.

Check for leaks

For your comfort and safety, it's vital that your motorhome is watertight. It's therefore advisable to carry out an annual watertightness check to ensure that there's no water ingress.
